What Can and Can't Be Removed

First, here's a brief list of crimes that the State of Rhode Island will allow you to have removed from your record:

• Petty theft
• Public intoxication
• Disorderly conduct
• Trespassing
• Vandalism
• DUI

Non-violent misdemeanors can be expunged, while violent crimes, as a rule, cannot. Crimes that you generally can't have expunged include:

• Murder

• Robbery
• Assault
• Burglary

• Crimes which the state considers "crimes of violence"
• Most other felonies (depending on the circumstances)
